Doing business in PH eases further: DTI

The Philippines targets to move up over the short-term its ranking in the ease of doing business to a range of 58th to 63rd as it implements more measures to speed up processes.

Ramon Lopez, secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said the Philippines could move one to five steps higher in ranking in the next  Doing Business Report of the World Bank-International Monetary Fund, from the current rank of 99th.

Lopez said the DTI in collaboration with other agencies in speeding up the processing and issuance of business permits and licenses from start of registration to the actual operations.

The goal   is to eventually reduce the steps from 16 to six and the number of days from 28 to 8 for all of these papers to be processed and released.

Lopez said business permits should be issued in  day for renewal and two days for new applications.

“We acknowledge the improvement would not happen immediately. For now, we expect to move up one  to five steps… because other countries are also expected to improve their ranking. Our efforts to shorten the number of days and steps to register a business are ongoing,” Lopez said.

The target is ppart of the Gameplan for Competitiveness 5.0.

The Philippines has tapped the New Zealand government to provide technical assistance on how it can further improve in the starting a business component.

The government also set up and expanded the Philippine Business Registry.

Measures have been filed in Congress on how to further ease doing business in the country.
